Town Hall Meeting - January 2022: Grit and Growth in a Small Business

I read somewhere that the differentiating factor between someone that ends up being a Navy SEAL and someone that doesn't is grit. It is the greatest contributing factor is just plain grit. Today, more than ever, I think small companies need a lot of people with a lot of grit or they just don't survive it. Don't make it. I mean, listen, it's just the nature of small companies.

It's not that collaborative. You want it to be, but you don't have time to be because you are executing all the time. So we've got to have some overall strategy to bring that collaboration together to focus on it. So how do we get people to do things that help us in an actual way, grow the company and not only grow it, but grow it in alternate channels and in a profitable way.

So we need to grow internally all of our skill sets, and we also need to grow as a company. The company can't grow if the people inside of it don't. But one of the things that growth is about is, "Hey, what did I learn this week? What did I teach this week?" So that we can help everyone grow. I always say it's really small things that end up making a difference.

We try to get people to know who we are if you really want to differentiate themselves, and I think the difference is going to be the people. That's the most important thing that we can do.
