Iceberg Lettuce
Iceberg Lettuce
Wed, June 18th, 2025
Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Supplies have tightened across Santa Maria, the Salinas Valley, and Mexico. Recent rain and hail in Mexico have caused significant quality issues and reduced yields. Hurricane Erick is also forecast to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to Mexico starting Thursday, likely worsening the situation.
In California, Iceberg crops in Salinas and Santa Maria are under disease pressure, leading to poor quality. Some shippers are bypassing fields entirely due to unharvestable conditions. Meanwhile, continued rainfall in parts of the Southeast is further impacting yields and quality. To secure product, processors are aggressively purchasing fields, which is tightening supply even more.
What to Expect:
- Expect limited Iceberg Lettuce availability from all regions through next week.
- Shippers will be closely monitoring inventory—additional pickups may be necessary to stay covered.
- Field pack pricing is rising daily, driven by lower supplies and increased demand.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.
Thanks,
