Major Winter Storm

Major Winter Storm

Fri, Jan 23rd, 2026

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

A potentially historic winter storm is impacting more than half of the United States and will continue moving east through the weekend. The system is producing heavy snow, significant ice accumulation, and extreme cold, affecting transportation, energy demand, and logistics nationwide.

More than 172 million people are currently under winter weather alerts, with multiple states declaring emergencies. Wind chills are expected to fall below zero, reaching as low as –50°F across the northern and central Plains. Severe ice accretion increases the risk of power outages, infrastructure disruptions, and hazardous travel conditions.

Snowfall & Ice Overview

  • Northern corridor from Oklahoma to Massachusetts: Widespread snowfall of 6–12 inches, with localized totals exceeding 12 inches.
  • Southern regions including Texas, the Carolinas, and Virginia: Predominantly mixed precipitation, with damaging ice accumulations likely.

Regional Impacts

  • New Mexico: 5–10 inches of snow; limited ice.
  • Texas:
    • North Texas: 4–8 inches
    • Dallas area: 2–6 inches
    • West/South Texas: 1–3 inches
    • Ice accretion up to 0.75 inch possible.
  • Oklahoma / Arkansas: 4–8 inches of snow; ice up to 0.75 inch.
  • Tennessee: Up to 12 inches of snow with 0.75 inch of ice.
  • Midwest:
    • Ohio Valley: 6–12 inches
    • Northern Michigan / Upper Peninsula: 6–14 inches.
  • Georgia / North Carolina:
    • North Georgia: Up to 1 inch of ice
    • Parts of North Carolina: Up to 6 inches of snow/ice.
  • Northeast: Widespread 12+ inches, with isolated totals approaching 24 inches.

Operational Outlook
Expect major travel disruptions, reduced freight mobility, shipment delays, and late deliveries due to snow-covered roads, icy conditions, and power interruptions. Energy demand is expected to remain elevated through the event.

Stakeholders should monitor local conditions closely and plan for extended logistical delays.
