Russet and Color Potatoes Market Update

As we approach the upcoming holiday, Idaho growers continue to have issues with lower pack-outs and quality issues. The elevated pricing and quality concerns are expected to continue until the new crop is available. The current potatoes have been in storage since August/September of 2025.

Suppliers are working to fulfill orders but are having quality challenges and early signs of decay.

Idaho Red and Gold Potatoes are now done for the season, with availability in other regions such as California, Arizona, and North Carolina.

While refrigeration may help preserve quality, it is not expected to fully resolve the issues. It is recommended to keep inventory tighter until the new crop is available. Turning every one or two weeks would be beneficial.

New Crop Idaho Russet Potato contracts will have a start date of 8/23/2026-8/21/2027
New Crop Red and Gold Potato contracts will have a start date of 8/23/2026-5/1/2027
