Temporary Suspension of USDA Activities in Michoacán (Avocados)

Temporary Suspension of USDA Activities in Michoacán (Avocados)

Thurs, Aug 6th, 2026

Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

Due to security-related threats in Michoacán, USDA has temporarily suspended its inspection activities in the region. As a result, export shipments to the United States are not currently authorized until further notice.

Current status:

  • U.S. export shipments: Suspended until USDA inspection activities resume.
  • Packing operations: Only fruit harvested on August 4 and received under USDA supervision is currently eligible for packing. No shipments are permitted.
  • Harvest: Growers may continue receiving newly harvested fruit; however, it cannot be packed or exported until USDA activities resume.
  • Many growers had already canceled today's harvest before USDA announced that receiving fruit would be permitted. Harvest operations are expected to resume as soon as conditions allow.

APEAM (Association of Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers of Mexico) leadership is actively working with Mexican authorities and remains in close communication with the USDA in an effort to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and minimize disruptions to the supply chain. At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when USDA inspection activities will resume.

While it is too early to determine the full impact on supply, an extended suspension could result in short-term supply interruptions and increased market volatility. We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your Sales Representative.

Thanks,
