Weather & Yuma Transition
Weather & Yuma Transition
Thurs, Oct 23rd, 2025
Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Weather Update:
Recent storms in Salinas Valley (heavy rain, hail, and humidity) have severely impacted crop quality and yields. Fields are under stress from insect pressure, disease, and weather damage. As a result, expect prorates and fair-to-okay quality across the following items:
- Lettuce & Blends: Lighter weights, smaller heads, weather stress.
- Romaine & Hearts: Minimal heart material, fair quality.
- Leaf Lettuce (Green, Red, Boston): Fair quality, significant prorates.
- Broccoli, Broccolini, Cauliflower: Pin rot, mildew, insect damage.
- Tender Leaf (Spinach, Arugula, Kale, Spring Mix): Hail damage, weather defects.
- Peas (Snow, Sugar Snap): Okay quality, significant prorates.
- Strawberries, Brussels Sprouts, Celery: Some growers prorating; celery supplies tightening.
Transition to Yuma:
The shift to Yuma is proving difficult. Cold, wet weather and pest pressure are delaying crop maturity and reducing yields - especially for lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage. Night temps in the 40s will further slow growth. Sensitive crops like spinach and spring mix are already tightening.
Yuma’s season is expected to start slowly and unevenly due to heavy monsoons and planting delays. More updates to follow as conditions evolve.
