Dear Ole Tyme Customers:

California Oranges

The California Valencia crop remains heavily skewed toward larger sizes, with 72ct and larger fruit making up most available supply. Smaller sizes, particularly 113ct and 138ct oranges, are extremely limited. As schools across North America resume, demand for small fruit continues to rise, placing additional pressure on already tight supplies.

Domestic Valencias

  • California Valencia supplies are dominated by 72ct and larger fruit.
  • Availability of 113- and 138-count oranges continues to tighten and is expected to become increasingly limited as school demand ramps up.
  • Customers should anticipate potential size and grade substitutions to help maintain order fulfillment.
    • Lead time is crucial; please send orders 3-4 days in advance.
      • Same-day or next-day orders will be subject to placement availability.
      • At some point in the near future, we can expect suppliers to keep an eye on small fruit numbers.
  • Overall fruit quality remains on the fair side.
    • Fruit will exhibit lighter color and increased external scarring, though internal quality remains strong.
    • We expect quality to improve on oranges when domestic navels get going sometime in October when the county gives the “ok” to harvest.
  • Sugar levels are ranging from 11-14% Brix.
  • Markets for all small-size oranges are expected to remain elevated, with extremely tight supplies going through October.

Offshore Oranges

  • Imports from Chile, South Africa, and Peru continue to supplement supplies on both the East and West Coasts.
  • Imported 88ct and 113ct oranges are expected to tighten over the next few weeks as they help offset limited California small fruit.
  • Imported fruit quality remains excellent, with deep orange color, smooth skin, and good eating characteristics.
  • Sugar levels are averaging 12-13% Brix.
  • Pricing will strengthen as school demand continues to build.
