Dear Ole Tyme Customers:
Costa Rican pineapple shippers continue to face high demand and limited supply for both crowned and crownless pineapples due to ongoing challenges:
- Weather Impact: Tropical growing conditions remain poor, with heavy thunderstorms forecast through mid-September.
- Labor Disruptions: A recent port strike in Guatemala delayed shipments, leaving ~2,700 containers unattended.
- Harvest Limitations: Field conditions are restricting harvest schedules, further tightening supply.
- Crownless Pineapples: Experiencing especially high demand and notable shortages.
Looking Ahead:
- Market pricing is volatile and rising daily.
- Suppliers are prioritizing existing contracts and not accepting new ones until conditions improve.
- Substitutions or prorated orders may be necessary.
- Mexican pineapples are available as an alternative, though prices fluctuate.
⚠️ Expect tight supplies through Labor Day and possibly into year-end.
📅 Note: U.S. ports were closed on Sept. 1, which may cause additional delays.
